Hi everyone,
Wikirate is happy to share that it will be attending MozFest 2026 in Barcelona, October 28–30, 2026.
@Marc_Wikirate and @Lucia will be taking part in the session “Cultivating Public Goods: Joint strategies to weeding out AI exploitation”, organized by the Digital Public Goods Alliance, together with other open data organizations including Wikimedia and the Open Knowledge Foundation.
About the session
This interactive Forum brings together developers, open-source maintainers, policy advocates, and digital rights defenders to explore ecosystem-level mechanisms for defending open resources, while critically reflecting on the current open definition itself.
The core of the session is a collaborative design space to co-create a roadmap for shared, systemic solutions, covering:
- Technical Infrastructure: distributed and shared solutions to identify and repurpose or block malicious, non-reciprocal bot traffic.
- Attribution & Reciprocity Frameworks: evolving copyleft and metadata rules, drawing on Creative Commons’ Signal project and related efforts to build reciprocal attribution and conditional data access architectures.
- Community Norms & Policy Proposals: advancing a public-interest vision of open knowledge infrastructure as critical digital infrastructure, exploring mechanisms like digital commons tax frameworks, community norms, and collaborative governance.
The goal is twofold: build a shared understanding of current strategies (and their limits), and develop joint, forward-looking advocacy strategies and coalitions across the open-source ecosystem.
Relevance for ODCAN
As a network built around open corporate accountability data, members face many of the same pressures around extraction, attribution, and sustainable governance of shared data resources. This session is a chance to connect our work to a broader movement defending open knowledge infrastructure.
Will you be at MozFest too?
If you’re planning to attend, let us know, we’d love to connect in person. And if you know organizations or partners working on these issues who should be part of the conversation, please share them with us here or reply to this post.
